Agri-Equest was called out to site this week by one of our Agricultural customers to a farm just outside of Little Ellingham in Norfolk. Some essential pieces of kit were in need of a service and an overdue oil change.
A cold start to a productive day
On the way up to the farm in Little Ellingham John was prepared for a very cold day on the tools, with the van happily informing him that it was -4 degrees most of the way to site. Fortunately for him, by the time he has gotten down to work it had warmed up to a balmy couple of degrees bellow freezing - not quite shorts weather unless you’re a postie!
The job started off with a full service on a small Case tractor that’s used with a Teagle Tomahawk for bedding down stock. These pieces of machinery are used by the customer every day of the year, so it is a critical combination for the farm and it is essential for them to be kept in good working order.
It never ceases to amaze us just how many filters are fitted on these modern tractors. This one having a total of nine that needed inspecting. Theses days it seems that modern tractors have far more filters but far fewer grease nipples, as most of the bearings are sealed for life. In agriculture this creates its own issues, and it is probably not the best option for this kind of machinery.
The second job of the day was a very overdue oil change on a Kubota RTV Gator, which was suffering from massive lack of power due to a blocked diesel filter. The stock man was made up this was done as it saves him walking miles every day!
Look after your equipment and it will look after you
What we can take away from days like today is just how important it is to keep on top of looking after your machinery and equipment. By keeping up with servicing and minor repairs, the abilities of the machine remain unaffected, you reduce the likelihood of those unforeseen emergency issues and you will be extending the life of your equipment - delaying the need for replacement or expensive repairs.
